Podcasting

How to Podcast Want the Quick Version? Follow this Step-by-Step Path and you can be done in minutes: Enable the plugin “Podcasting Plugin by TSG” AND the plugin “complete RSS”. The complete RSS fixes some little problems with WordPress’ RSS formatting, FYI. Be sure your “permalinks” are set to /%postname% . This will make your URLs shorter and simpler. Go to Settings >> Permalinks, click “custom”, and remove any extra defaults. Note: If one of our Swift consultants built your site, this is probably already done for you, but ensure it’s set to custom and /%postname%. This makes your URLs like YourSite.com/page-name instead of YourSite.com/post=123. Go to Settings >> Podcasting and just fill things out as best you can. Don’t overthink it, you won’t really break anything, it’s just labels for the most part here. Important! You MUST have a Post-Category called “podcast”. Just that. No more, no less, all lower case. Go to Posts >> Categories and add it. … Continue reading

e-Commerce

e-Commerce Setup Start with Paypal. Trust us, it’s hands down the easiest to deploy, the credit card rates are great (about 2.25% + $.25 I think, as of last checking), and once you have a lot of money flowing through your website you can easily swap it out later if you’re really concerned about saving .075% or a few cents per transaction. That’s legit, but the difficulty of integrating other gateways will far exceed the cost of implementation for any new business. So keep it simple – for now. Steps to deploy and integrate: Make a decision on what email you want to use as your paypal email. Tip: You can have up to 4 emails on one account. Generally I recommend something like “accounting@yourdomain.com” or “paypal@yourdomain.com”. Create the box if you are using something new, by going to Google.com/a/YOURDOMAIN.COM (google apps login). Click on “Accounts and Users” at the top in the blue bar, create a user, OR just … Continue reading

Twitter

Adding Twitter to your website is easy, and a one-time setup function. This is about 1 out of 10 on the difficulty scale as long as you pay close attention to the steps. You’ll only have to do this once. Done correctly, this will be a bi-directional integration, which means your twitter will broadcast / tweet a link to each article every time you post a new blog entry (a “Post”, not a “Page”), and if you choose, each tweet can even become a blog entry as well. This can get excessive if you use Twitter a lot, but if you don’t, it’s fine. Note that if you use Aweber ($1 trial here; this is a mass email / sequential autoresponder system), then Aweber can automatically push to Twitter, which in turn links to your newsletter on Aweber’s server, which should always include a link back to your website(s) of course – automatically building a tiny link-chain that helps your … Continue reading

I have a domain already

I have a domain already: Great! You can use that domain, or buy a new one, or even both. Just click “I have a domain” on the last step, instead of buying a new one. Google prefers older / aged domains, as it is less likely to be a “spammy” junk website. Continue reading

I’m on a Mac / Phone / PC / Linux – will that Matter?

No, our system is 100% browser-based or server-side based, which means pretty much any browser on any platform will work to create and edit your website(s).

We recommend Firefox or Google’s Chrome over Internet Explorer (“IE”), but IE works too, as does Safari and really any other browser. Continue reading
